Sapphire Lizard's Gift Guide (2)

Know someone who is decorating a new home? Well, then you may want to consider this lovely piece from Amy Giacomelli. I admire Amy's work, most of which is well beyond my budget right now. This piece is a bit smaller than many of Amy's pieces and so is its price.

Give this serene painting this holiday season for only $53.

Of course, feel free to browse Amy's shop for many more fabulous pieces!

Etsy Spotlight~ Frozen in Time

I am incredibly excited to introduce you to an awesome new Etsy seller. I have to admit, I discovered this shop through the Daily Ditties at Wickedly Chic.

Frozen in Time is a shop full of truly unique pendants. These pendants are photographic images from inside of kaleidescopes, mounted in acrylic pendants. Absolutely stunning!!

Where have you been???

Many of you may have been wondering where I've been. Things have been busy at home, and I haven't had much time for blogging.

The biggest chunk of my time has gone to my son. Our 4 yr old son had his tonsils and adenoids removed last Thursday. So, we spent our Labor Day weekend nursing him back to health. I'd say that he pulled through it very well, but we definitely had our ups and downs. He has been fairly low key, and his appetite comes and goes. The biggest challenge we've had is getting him to drink enough fluids. Today is his first day back at daycare...a little sad for me. Hopefully it goes well, because tomorrow is another big day for him. Tomorrow is the first day of preschool. Last week they had an open house, and he had a blast. So much so that when it came time to leave, he didn't want to go home.

It is a bit weird not having the kids around today. It has been a while since I've taken them to daycare on one of my days off...and after a long weekend with them, it sure is quiet around here. I mustn't spend too much time enjoying the peace and quiet though...there is much to do today. I need to finish cleaning up around the house. More importantly, I must finish getting things together for an appointment I have this afternoon. I'm headed over to check out the lovely little shop opening today in Lake Villa, called Artisans Ball. I actually heard about the shop through Etsy, as the owner is an Etsy seller. The shop features a number of indie artists, a list which will hopefully include myself soon too.

Over the coming weeks, I will do what I can to bring the blog back up to normal speed. It may take a while though because my husband has a couple of business trips, and I'll be a single mom for a while. Thanks so much for your patience!!

Featured Artist of the Week~ August 7th

Family committments have left my poor little blog a little lonely lately. I'm doing my best to keep a steady, but unfortunately slow, flow of new material here for my loyal readers.

This week I'll get back into it with a featured artist of the week. Straying only slightly from the bead artists that I had been featuring...this week's featured artist is:

Leaping Lizards Designs

at

Leaping Lizards specializes in hand-crafted ceramic pendants, jewelry and functional art for your home. What I love most about the items you'll find at Leaping Lizards is that they tend to carry inspiration with them.

Whether it be inspiration from nature, as seen in this Green Leaf Pendant...

or inspiration through words, with this Hope Pendant...

And, as I mentioned before...inspiration for your home with this lovely Peace Themed Chip and Dip set:
So...stop by Leaping Lizards today and check out the rest of the shop! Be sure to mention that you saw them here!!

Featured Artist of the Week~ July 17th

As I mentioned last week...I am featuring another great glass artist this week. This week's featured artist is somewhat new to the Etsy scene. She offers a variety of great glass beads and pendants.

Isinglass Design
at

The first bead that caught my eye in Laurie's shop was this Pink and Purple Swirled pendant bead.

I am not normally a fan of bumpy glass beads, but I really like the way this one was done. The pink bumps blend well with the rest of the colors. They're almost like sprinkles on top of a cupcake.

It probably won't surprise you to hear that I love the bright green and aqua in this pendant bead.

Also, I must mention that there are a number of glass creatures roaming around Laurie's shop. My favorite of the creatures is this lovely fish.
So...take a few minutes to browse the rest of the shop. And be sure to tell Laurie that you saw her here!

Featured Artist of the Week~ July 9th

I'm trying to save up to make some major purchases of artisan lampwork beads. As a result, I have been adding TONS of bead artists to my Etsy favorites. Over the next few weeks, I plan to showcase several of those artists.

This week's featured artist is...

Avenue Beads

at

Some artists' work is so unique that I am able to identify the artist before I even click on that little thumbnail. This week's featured artist, Avenue Beads, happens to be one of those artists. I think its a combination of the vibrant colors used in his beads and his photography style, but I always know an Avenue Bead when I see it pass by on the recently listed items.

I am particularly fascinated by his use of vibrant blues. Here are some of my personal favorites from Avenue Beads.

Popped on to Etsy this afternoon, and this item on the front page caught my eye.

Brand new item from a brand new seller. This necklace appeals to the chemist in me. It has just the right geek factor, but is still totally cool. It puts a scientific twist on those inspirational word charms (which I love too!).

Featured Artist of the Week~ May 16th

This week's featured artist:

LuAnne Payne
of

LuAnne describes her artwork as whimsical, uplifting and nostalgic. Her artwork is her outlet. Her paintings are primarily acrylic, like the flying pig shown above. She also does lovely collages using some great vintage papers that she has stashed away over the years. Take a look around her shop and you will see quite a few birds, which are my personal favorites in her shop.

Many of her collages are these neat little collage blocks:

Another newer item in her shop is this lovely altered collaged journal, which highlights her talents very well.
